Austin to London: Arts Council England Champions Music and Immersive Innovation at SXSW
Thank you for joining us at UK House, SXSW London, for two dynamic, well-attended Arts Council England events produced by British Underground.
On Monday, the Arts Council England Music Mixer spotlighted standout UK talent. The return of live performances from Jawari, Milkweed, and Summer Pearl presented at SXSW Austin by Dialled In, Broadside Hacks, and Jazz re:freshed gave a glimpse into the diverse landscape and global resonance of today’s thriving underground music scenes.
In order: Summer Pearl live, UK House exterior, Yemi Sawyerr (Jazz re:freshed), Anne Rupert (Blast Theory), Claire Mera-Nelson (Arts Council England), From The Ground Up panel, Milkweed live.
Tuesday’s Future Art and Culture Networking Mixer opened with From the Ground Up: Shining a Spotlight on the UK’s XR and Immersive Sector, a panel first introduced at SXSW Austin and now hosted in London.
The conversation featured leading voices: Michelle Walker (Arts Council England), Anne Rupert (Blast Theory), Karen Palmer (Consensus Gentium), Marc Boothe (B3 Media), and Verity McIntosh (Immersive Arts), sharing insights into the UK’s growing immersive ecosystem and opportunities for global collaboration.
Earlier this year, as part of the Future Art and Culture programme at SXSW Austin, British Underground and Hatsumi founder Sarah Ticho hosted a roundtable exploring how to strengthen the infrastructure for UK-based immersive creators. The discussion brought together producers, funders, and policy advocates to identify practical pathways forward.
