Four UK Acts Announced for Official WOMEX 2025 Showcase
British Underground is proud to share the four UK-based artists selected to officially showcase at WOMEX 2025 in Tampere, Finland. This prestigious international platform brings together global music professionals and enthusiasts, and the UK's lineup reflects the strength and diversity of its music scene. Congratulations to Dur-Dur Band International, Malkit Singh, Spafford Campbell and Zawose Queens, who will perform for international delegates and industry leaders this October.
Representing a range of traditions and culture, each act brings a powerful story and rich musical heritage to the WOMEX stage.
Dur-Dur Band International (Somalia/UK) reimagines the golden era of Mogadishu’s 1980s disco-funk scene. With original members now based in the UK, the group’s reformation honours the spirit of Somali funk while energising it for new audiences. Their performances are a rare glimpse into a treasured musical movement from Somalia’s past.
Malkit Singh (India/UK), widely regarded as the ‘King of Bhangra,’ is a legend of Punjabi music. With a career spanning more than three decades, 21 albums, and record-breaking global sales, Malkit continues to carry the torch for Bhangra across continents. His live sets are a masterclass in energy, legacy and enduring global appeal.
Spafford Campbell (UK) is a London-based duo praised for their stripped-back yet resonant sound. Their 2022 debut album You, Golden received critical acclaim for its refreshing take on traditional forms. Their latest EP, 102 Metres East, was released via Real World X and reflects a sonic curiosity rooted in place, presence and English identity.
Zawose Queens (Tanzania/UK) bring forward the legacy of the Gogo musical tradition from central Tanzania. Pendo and Leah Zawose are the first women in their acclaimed family to take centre stage, offering mesmerising performances of polyrhythmic grooves and intricate vocal harmonies. Their debut album Maisha celebrates both ancestry and innovation.
